Meet The Teachers: Elizabeth Walker and Emery Carr, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School

This post is one in a series of “Meet the Teacher” blogs celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8, 2020. The teachers featured in this series are K-12 educators across Central Florida who also serve as the Campus Advisor for their school’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon. In addition to their responsibilities as K-12 teachers, they guide Dance Marathon students through a year of raising funds and awareness for Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, encouraging and challenging them as leaders, and instilling in them a sense of philanthropy.

Meet The Teacher: Elizabeth Walker

Teaches: 10th-12th grade Mathematics

Has been teaching for: 10 years

Favorite part about teaching: The relationships with the students.

Being “FTK” means to me: Teaching our students to look beyond themselves and learn how to be a “contributor”.

Favorite part of Dance Marathon: The relationships we build leading up to the event and then being able to see it come to fruition together.

Meet The Teacher: Emery Carr

Teaches: School counselor

Has been a counselor for: 2 years

Favorite part about being a counselor: The students, and being able to make an impact.

Being “FTK” means to me: For me it means to be apart of something that is much bigger than myself, and being able to have students also be apart of that is amazing. It means fighting for every kid who can’t.

Favorite part of Dance Marathon: It is so hard to pick one! I love how fun it is, and how involved the students and community becomes.
